Atum was one of the main and oldest gods in ancient Egypt, known as a creator and sun god alongside Re, Horakhty, and Khepri. His name, derived from the verb "tem," means either "the accomplished one" or "the one who did not come to being yet." He is frequently mentioned in the Pyramid Texts, providing extensive information about his mythological roles and characteristics.
Atum was the primeval deity of Heliopolis, with his cult rising to importance as early as the Old Kingdom. He is known as the "self-engendered one," who arose at the beginning of time and created the first gods.
Atum
was not only the creator but also the original creation itself, represented by the sacred ben-ben stone. The ben-ben stone symbolized the primeval mound that emerged from the waters of creation, worshipped at Heliopolis from the earliest dynasties. This stone, also known as a pyramidion, is the top stone of a pyramid and is related to the obelisk.
